Asset Survey Solutions was engaged to provide comprehensive surveying services essential for the successful completion of the Glenrowan Solar Farm.

The Glenrowan Solar Farm is a significant 130MWdc solar project located 2km south-west of Glenrowan, Victoria. The project, which completed testing and commissioning in March 2024, is poised to generate renewable electricity sufficient to power 55,000 Australian homes. This aligns with the Victorian Government’s Renewable Energy Target (VRET) and supports the transition to a carbon-neutral future.

The Ask

The client required precise and detailed survey work to ensure accurate planning, design, and construction of the solar farm infrastructure. The scope of work included:

The Challenge

The presence of numerous underground utilities required meticulous planning and execution. Weather conditions further complicated the project, causing parts of the site to flood. Effective communication and collaboration with the construction teams were paramount to ensure seamless integration of survey data and construction activities.

Our team worked closely with designers to account for a direct buried communications cable to avoid clashes with new installations, and to address design problems posed by a creek crossing.

  • QL_B, QL_A Underground Service Plan

In delivering both QL_B and QL_A underground service plans we ensured the highest standards of accuracy and reliability. For QL_B, we used non-invasive methods such as EMF & ground-penetrating radar to map underground utilities, aiding in preliminary planning and allowing Asset Survey Solutions to provide a clash analysis. We followed this up with QL_A non-destructive digging to expose found services and create an underground service plan. This approach minimised utility clashes and ensured seamless project execution.

  • Clash Analysis

We conducted a detailed clash analysis to identify and mitigate potential conflicts between the solar farm infrastructure and existing underground services, avoiding costly reworks and ensuring seamless construction progress.

  • 3D Feature Survey

We carried out an extensive 3D feature survey to capture the detailed topography and existing features of the site, crucial for accurate planning, design, and construction of the solar farm infrastructure.

  • Set Out Works

Our expert surveyors provided accurate set out services, ensuring that all components were positioned according to the design specifications.

  • Permanent Control Installation

We established permanent control points across the site to facilitate ongoing construction and future maintenance, providing reliable reference markers for all subsequent survey activities.

  • As-Built Data Deliverables

Upon completion of construction, we delivered detailed as-built data, documenting the exact locations and specifications of all installed components, essential for future operations, maintenance, and potential upgrades to the solar farm.
